About

Who Should Use It?

Zoidcom is designed to be a powerful but simple to use networking system especially for bandwidth demanding action games. All games in which several people meet in a virtual world to do fast paced things are suited best zo Zoidcom's featureset. It can also be used to write chat applications, online card games or fileservers, if you want to.

Why Does It Exist?

Zoidcom was originally a byproduct of my sparetime-developed multiplayer overhead space shooter "Operation Black Sun" (something like Subspace). After trying several approaches to implement efficient and simple to use networking into my engine, the 4th iteration of the netcode became sophisticated enough to be a standalone library. After realizing that the features I needed for Blacksun are features needed by almost every online game, Zoidcom was born.

Who am I?

I am a 25 year old student of computer science in Dortmund/Germany, working in the game industry since the age of 16. Starting with bits of support code for various budget and fullprice game projects, implementing an AI for the round based strategy games "RIM: Battle Planets" and "1914: The Great War" I soon specialized on network technology. The biggest project as of now was the complete lobbyserver for "Sacred" and "Sacred: Underworld" performing tasks as gamefinding, chatserver, account, buddylist, character and cdkey storage and management.
